André Balazs
...Is a Pianist/Singer/Songwriter based out of Collinsville, Ct. His influences are Singer/Songwriters and Instrumentalists from Folk, Jazz, Blues, World, and Rock genres (Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits, Brad Mehldau, Peter Gabriel, Scott Joplin and more). André is from a musical family and began his musical journey at a young age. After years of classical piano studies André continued his education at conservatories in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Though a skilled and accomplished performer in many styles and genres, André’s specialty is the performance of his own songs and compositions, which are a hybrid of his diverse musical tastes and experiences. André performs solo and with his band Bipolar Jukebox in Connecticut and throughout New England.
“Singer, songwriter and pianist Andre Balazs, a high-priest of hybridization and originality, leads his genre-crossing band, Bipolar Jukebox. A big, raspy-toned, emotionally wide-ranging singer—a mix of Tom Waits and Dr. John—and a classically and jazz-trained pianist, Balazs rumbles and rambles exuberantly over all styles. Both ecumenical and original, he's at home on the range galloping through classical allusions and pop music of all brands including funk, blues, jazz, cosmopolitan French café romps and stomps, world, rock and indie genres, plus not-yet categorized personal creations that, tsunami-like, pour out of his multi-polar jukebox of a band.”
-OWEN McNALLY, Special To The Courant, The Hartford Courant
"André is a Connecticut TREASURE! His refreshingly whimsical and ironic take on life is reflected in every song, his delivery spot on. Balazs evokes a little Randy Newman, a touch of Aznavour, a bit of Tom Waits, a dash of Leonard Cohen...but is certainly ALL André Balazs.”
- Dan Blow (Japanalia on One, Eiko, and Dirt Salon) 2012
"When André Balazs plays, you start to feel foolish for ever thinking there was a separation between jazz, rock, and blues."
- Dan Barry (Hartford Advocate)
